A sacred tourist place!
Dhebewadi (Valmiki Temple and its surroundings) -- a holy place
where Maharishi Valmiki performed his 'tapas'.
People in this area have a strong belief that Maharishi Valmiki
performed his 'tapas' here,in Valmiki.
There is a temple of God Vitthal, his wife Rukhmini and Maharishi
Valmiki here.The present temple has idols of Shri Ramchandra,Sita,Lakshmana
and Hanuman.The attractive idols are all carved in marble.The outer
room or central hall, called 'gabhara' in marathi is also all done
in marble.
When Maharishi Valmiki was performing his 'tapas',the dry tree branch
which he held in his hand bloomed into a sapling and then a huge
tree.This tree is present here.
Origin of River Valmiki
At a distance of about 100 metres on the backside of Valmiki temple
is the origin of River Valmiki.
One finds continuous water coming out from a small spring.
Valmiki Yatra
According to the marathi calender, in the month of 'phalgun' on
the day 'krishna dwadashi' (second day of the month) the yatra begins.This
lasts for 3 to 4 days.The last day of this yatra is on the day of
'Mahashivaratri'.
Valmiki to Pandharpur pilgrimage on foot called 'Dindi'
'Dindi' is a journey done on foot to a God's place by the worshippers
chanting bhajans all the way.Here worshippers of Lord Vitthal go
on foot from Valmiki to Pandharpur which are 235kms. apart.This
is completed in 7 days.This 'dindi' starts from Valmiki on 'bhaubij'
day after Diwali and reaches Pandharpur after 7 days.
